The polls are open, and set to close at 2200 GMT

While the vote counts are expected to lead into tomorrow's trading day, the aftermath is still unclear at this point. As Adam mentioned here, a hung parliament is the expected outcome.

The "worst" outcome is if the Five Start Movement party wins a clear majority - something which isn't likely to happen at all in this round of elections for any party. They previously campaigned for Italy to ditch the euro a couple of years back, but this time around it's not part of their election agenda.

So, at least that puts less risk of a further drag in the euro when the parties are all scrambling to form alliances after the polls close.

While we're at it, don't forget that there's the German SPD coalition deal vote count happening today as well.
