  • Says that China and US must understand each other's strategic interests
  • And that the two nations have agreed to have a dialogue in Beijing, following recent bilateral talks

Zhang was speaking at a briefing ahead of the annual session of parliament in China, which begins on Monday. But no specific time or names of officials that will be attending the dialogue were given when he commented earlier.

On Friday, China also said that it will take measures to safeguard its interests after the US imposed a 25% tariff on steel and 10% tariff on aluminium imports last week.

We've already seen quite a number of responses to the matter on Friday, and once these measures kick into place next week, I expect we'll see more retaliation and backlash to come.
