I am seeing a lot of headline tweets and such about Japanese PM Abe calling a snap election
This is not fresh news, it hit the Japanese press late Sunday/early Monday and I posted it first thing Monday morning. ICYMI (and judging by the tweets I see, plenty have): Japan press: "Abe set to call October election"
From that post, the main gist
- Abe ... will make a final decision on the timing of the election after he returns from New York on Friday
If the election were called, the likely timings:
- Abe would be likely will dissolve the lower house as soon as the Diet convenes on September 28
- October 22 is the likely date, although the 17th or 29th are also possible
- In either case, the three lower house by-elections scheduled for October 22 would be cancelled

Carry on.
