The USD retreat continues as European desks start to stir 29 Dec

We've seen a decent USD retreat since yesterday's soggy US housing data.

USDJPY has now fallen below the previously strong support into 116.50 after once again failing around 117.80, while EURUSD has recovered back through 1.0450 after yesterday's fall to 1.0373.

The on-going month/year-end yen demand I've also been highlighting over recent sessions is still playing out on core pairs too. GBPJPY on session lows at 142.58 and EURJPY both capping GBPUSD and EURUSD amidst the general US$ decline

EURGBP held the 0.8500 support area I highlighted and the rally to 0.8544 has also capped GBPUSD gains above 1.2250.

AUDJPY also on session lows at 83.89 helping to put a lid on AUDUSD gains over 0.7200

The Nikkei 225 closed down -1.32% at 19,145.14
