The Sunday Times in the UK reporting on what appears to be the next bank in the crosshairs of the US Department of Justice

Expected to demand $10bn from Royal Bank of Scotland next year

The paper goes on:

  • Royal Bank of Scotland have already agreed to pay USD1.1bn in fines to resolve allegations re mortgage backed securities ... RBS say they've "set aside $5.6bn to cover a settlement with the Federal Housing Finance Agency"
  • BUT ... the bank "has not yet made a provision for the justice department's penalty"

GBP has been weak in opening trades, this won't be helping. GBP/USD around 1.2916 last, from around 1.2970 late US trading.
