Ireland's ECB representative expected to be appointed this week

The Irish Times reports that the decision on who to replaced Irish central bank leader Patrick Honohan is down to four candidates.

  1. Robert Watt, secretary general of the Department of Public Expenditure, is considered the favorite.
  2. Philip Lane, Whately professor of political economy at Trinity College Dublin is considered a strong contender.
  3. Mary O'Dea, former acting chief of the financial regulator was Ireland's representative at the IMF and was also posted to the World Bank.
  4. An unnamed overseas candidate who is not Irish.

A finance ministry panel will make the selection after final interviews yesterday.

Here at ForexLive our #1 central banking criteria is the ability to easily spell the name and as such, we heartily endorse all the named candidates.
