The eight-month campaign on the Gallipoli peninsula, in modern day Turkey, was one of the bloodiest of the war and the first to involve troops from Australia and New Zealand.

Ten thousand men of the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps (Anzacs) died at Gallipoli in 1915, their first ever campaign for no material gain. Yet it is remembered and even celebrated on 25 April each year in Australia and New Zealand.
