An early copy of Ben Bernanke's memoir has been bought by AP, and they've a nice quick piece up on it

Bernanke recalls when regulators sought to save Lehman Brothers ...

  • a "terrible, surreal moment"
  • "We were staring into the abyss"
  • A "blur"

He notes that the taxpayer-provided bailouts were widely unpopular. He would wince, he said, when he saw bumper stickers saying, "Where's my bailout?"

I liked this piece of advice given to Mr. B:

... a quotation from Abraham Lincoln given to him by the Fed's parking garage manager... "If I were to try to read, much less answer all the attacks made on me, this shop might as well be closed for any other business"

Bernanke's book is titled "The Courage to Act: A Memoir of a Crisis and Its Aftermath"
