The Commerce Secretary was on CNBC and mostly talked about NAFTA. He framed renegotiations as an update to an "ancient" agreement to better reflect the digital age and growth of services exports. He also touched on dispute resolution changes.
On the timeline, he said that if Congress doesn't give the White House the authority to renegotiate soon, then they could drag on. He pointed to next year's Mexican Presidential election as a watershed. It will be impossible to negotiation too close to the election because leaders there will want the new administration to take the lead, which could slow down the timeline.
