Kathryn Dominguez to be named Federal Reserve Governor

Dominguez will fill a vacancy as one of the 7 Fed Governors that vote on every decision. It's a 14-year term.

"Dr. Dominguez has the proven experience, judgment, and deep knowledge of the financial system, monetary policy, and international capital markets to serve at the Federal Reserve during this important time for our economy," Obama said in a statement.

The White House said Dominguez would bring "expertise in foreign exchange rate behavior, emerging markets and international borrowing." She will be the Fed's expert in global market issues, which is an odd thing for someone coming from academia, rather than Wall Street.

She's a public policy and economics professor at the University of Michigan and a research associate at the National Bureau of Economic Research.
