May vows to try again
The unelected House of Lords amended to Brexit bill to protect EU workers who are already in Britain from losing their status after the Brexit.
The issue is leverage. May wants to allow EU workers who are already installed to continue working in the UK but wants the same guarantee from the EU. If she loses this vote, she would lose that card in negotiations.
The loss was largely expected because she doesn't have a majority in the upper house. Look for some kind of compromise in the days ahead.
