US January durable goods orders provisional data now out 27 Feb

  • 2.6% prev revised down from 2.8%
  • ex transport -0.3% vs 0.4% exp vs 0.7% prev
  • cap goods orders non-defence ex-air -0.2% vs 0.55 exp vs -0.6% prev
  • cap good shipments non-def/ex-air 0.1% vs 0.3% exp vs 0.7% prev rev up from 0.4%

A notably fickle/variable data report but soggy nonetheless. Main focus currently on Powell's testimony also due to start now and that's keeping a bid under USD but fading as I type

USDJPY 107.12 GBPUSD 1.3928 EURUSD 1.2295

Jan prelim Wholesale Inventories:

  • mm 0.7% vs 0.4% exp/prev
  • retail inventories mm 0.8% vs 0.3% prev rev up from 0.2%

Inventories a glass half full/half empty. More on the shelves could mean more buoyant demand and suppliers stocking up or less demand leaving more on the shelves.
