The House of Representatives have voted in favour of a bill to keep funidn the government

Details here: US govmt funding vote (to avert a shut down) passes House

But now the bill must get the approval of the upper House, the Senate

  • The Republicans have a majority in the Senate, 51-49 but need enough votes to reach 60 to pass the bill

Which looks unlikely. The Senate is expected to vote later Thursday evening (Washington time) ... i.e. within hours. If the extra funding is not passed the government shuts down as of midnight Friday.
