The official question will be:
Should the United Kingdom remain a member of the European Union or leave the European Union?"
Cameron said the cabinet had agreed with the government's position to recommend that Britain remains in a reformed EU. Speaking about the EU referendum, he adds:
"The choice goes to the heart of the kind of country we want to be and the future we want for our children. This is about how we trade with neighbouring countries to create jobs, prosperity and financial security for our families."
Individual cabinet ministers will have" the freedom to campaign in a personal capacity as they wish," but Cameron adds: "my responsibility as prime minister is to speak plainly about what I believe is right for the country."
Already we have the lower parliamentary house leader and former justice secretary Chris Grayling declaring he will back the Leave campaign, but business secretary Sajid Javid says he will vote to Remain, following Home Sec Theresa May's similar decision earlier.
Expect Boris and others to show their colours before the day is out.
On Monday Cameron will make a statement to Parliament, allowing MPs to debate the deal he has reached in Brussels and the choice facing the British people in the referendum.
Secondary legislation is due to be laid before Parliament paving the way for a referendum. The Electoral Commission will designate the official Leave and Remain campaigns, which will get access to public funds, a £7m spending limit and TV broadcasts.
