The World Economic Forum continues in Davos today

My invitation was obviously lost in the mail, so I'll have to swill champagne at home or down the pub.

There is a bucketload of speakers on Tuesday, with plenty of worthy topics for pontification upon. I'm highlighting two that may be of specific interest to markets.

There's the Opening Plenary with Xi Jinping, President of the People's Republic of China

  • That's scheduled for 1010GMT

Ahead of this speech Premier Li Keqiang spoke on Friday last week at a meeting on China's government work report for 2017, where he emphasised again a focus in reforms. We may see a similar focus from Xi today, and also a discussion global economic conditions. We may even hear some (controversy!) comments directed at the incoming US administration.

Also, and probably of even more immediate importance for markets, at 0845GMT there is the session: Monetary Policy: Where Will Things Land?, subtitled: With interest rates diverging, how can central banks safely land monetary policy?

Speakers at this session include Swiss National Bank Chair Thomas Jordan (others are: Gerard Baker, Axel A. Weber, Anthony Scaramucci, Carmen M. Reinhart, Li Daokui, David M. Rubenstein ... various luminaries in the field).

Thomas J. Jordan is Chairman of the Governing Board, Swiss National Bank and honorary EUR/CHF rug-puller
