Highest level since August 2001

The US consumer confidence index from the Conference Board rose to the highest level since August 2001. The index jumped to 113.7 which was much better than the 108.5 estimate. The November reading was revised higher to 109.4 from 107.1 previously reported. A year ago the index stood at 96.3 in December 2015. The 3 month average moved up to 108.0 from 104.6 last month.

  • The present situation fell to 126.1 vs 132.0 last month. A year ago this index was at 116.4.
  • The consumer confidence expectations surged to 105.5 from 94.4 last month. A year ago the index was at 83.0
