Russia doesn't hint at military response

Russia's defense minister called the downing of a Russian jet a "hostile act" not an "act of war" and didn't hint at military strikes in retaliation. That's cooled fears of World War III.

The S&P 500 has trimmed about 10 points of losses and is now down just 5 points to 2081. WTI crude is at $42.88 after hitting $43.46.

What happens in Turkey won't affect the US economy but the soft consumer confidence is a worry ahead of the holiday season. So far the markets is ignoring it but if other surveys are equally soft, it could spark more sustained selling.
