Last was 71.

The NAHB Home builders confidence index for the month of April fell to 68 vs 71 last month. It was also below the estimate of 70.

  • Current Single family sales fell to 74 from 77 last month
  • Future single family sales fell to 75 from 78 last month
  • Prospective buyers traffice fell to 52 vs 53 last month

Although lower, the NAHB Chief Economist says that the Current single family sales being above the 70 level for 5 consecutive months "shows that there is continued demand for new construction"

The overall index is also elevated despite the dip this month. IT remains near high levels going back to 2000 (see chart above). This month may be down and below expectations, but the index continues to point toward gains in new construction.

The survey is of home builders across the nations. In this survey there were 307 responses vs 320 in April 2016.
