Atlanta Fed's Dennis Lockhart leads the Fed speak today

The Fed heads are out in force over the next week or so and we kick off with Dennis "the menace" Lockhart today at 13.10 GMT

Lockhart was out and about late in September and he's in the 'Ready to hike but doesn't mind waiting camp'. He voted to hold rates in September as a "cautionary measure" to see if there are any shocks coming to the US economy

Back at the beginning of Aug his comments were that of someone ready to pull the trigger but he's now turned into a market watcher. He spoke to the WSJ and said that the economy is ready for a hike and it would take a significant deterioration to convince him not to go in Sep. About three weeks later he then said that the markets have made him less resolute on a hike

He's one to change his mind like the weather so what we'll get could be anything. If he's been troubled by the NFP report and the other soft data then we may hear him being more cautious again. If he brushes that off then he's likely back on the 2015 hike path and that will bring the Oct FOMC back into play. Of course, he may not say anything of note and then I've wasted 15 minutes doing this post :-D

Today's speech is at the Society of American Business Editors and Writers at the Graduate School of Journalism in New York. As far as I can see there's no live feed

Which way will the rate hike wind be blowing for Lockhart today?
