Details from the June 2016 UK retail sales data report 21 July 2016

  • Prior 0.9%.

  • 4.3% vs 5.0% exp y/y. Prior 6.0%. Revised to 5.7%
  • Ex-fuel -0.9% vs -0.6% exp m/m. Prior 1.0%. Revised to 0.9%
  • 3.9% vs 4.8% exp y/y. Prior 5.7%. Revised to 5.2%
  • Q2 sales 1.6% vs 1.2% prior q/q
  • 4.9% vs 4.1% prior y/y

This data used ran up to the 28th June 2nd July, only a few days after the referendum vote. ONS report that there's no evidence that sales were effected by the vote.

The changeable weather hit clothing sales while department stores got a boost from Euro 2016 (though that didn't last too long ;-) ).

Cable is having a wobble down to 1.3168.

Quarterly sales were the strongest since Q4 2014.
