Japan Nikkei Manufacturing PMI (August -final): 51.7

  • The 'flash' was an improved 51.9
  • The prior month was 51.2

Japanese manufacturing activity in August expanded at the fastest pace in seven months

  • Domestic orders rose
  • New orders rose to 53.4, more than a preliminary 53.2 and a final 50.9 in the previous month
  • Suggests domestic demand is picking up
  • New export orders was 51.6 (flash of 50.5, and 52.2 in the previous month)
  • Output growth also slowed from both the preliminary reading and final number in July
