It's the December Employment report from Australia today - how many new jobs added, the unemployment rate, part-time, full-time, participation rate ... the whole shebang

If you manage to win the Powerball jackpot with the correct numbers I'd really appreciate if you could then pop in at ForexLive and turn your talents to picking the Aussie employment number. I can't offer you one and half billion USD for doing so, but at least it would show that winning the Powerball wasn't just a lucky break for ya and you really do have talent at picking lotteries.

  • The data is due at 0030GMT

Employment Change for December:

  • expected -10K, prior +71.4K

Just a word on this 'expected'. the general feeling out there is that after the prior two results which were monster blockbuster positives today we are due for some reversion to the mean sort of result. Regardless, trend figures for employment growth are strongly up; and yes, while the recent results may be overstating employment strength the point is there is strength.

Check out the 'trend' line, and while you're at it the trend in unemployment too:

Unemployment Rate:

  • expected 5.9%, prior 5.8%

Full Time Employment Change

  • prior was 41.6K

Part Time Employment Change

  • prior was 29.7K

Participation Rate

  • expected is 65.2%, prior was 65.3%
