Developing story over the last couple of hours in the North Sea oil fields

A barge has broken free of its anchor and is drifting loose among oil platforms in the North Sea. At the moment it's being reported that it's heading for the BP platform Valhall, which is in the process of being evacuated

Other platforms in the Valhall field have been shut down also. On its present course the barge is due to hit the platform in the next hour or so, unless it changes course

Around 15 staff are still on the platform and are due to be taken off in the next 15 minutes. A BP spokesman says that no oil is stored on the platform but there's still a risk of an oil spill, depending on if it hits any other platforms

These platforms are in and around the southern part of the Norwegian North Sea and are linked directly to Norway and produce around 120k barrels of oil per day
