Comments reported from the global head of BlackRock's infrastructure investment group, Jim Barry

On renewable energy and its likely impact on coal

  • "Coal is dead. That's not to say all the coal plants are going to shut tomorrow. But anyone who's looking to take beyond a 10-year view on coal is gambling very significantly."
  • "It's been amusing sitting back and watching Australia from afar because in effect it's been denying gravity"

Coal is a big Australian export, so this will be something to watch (over the next 10 years and more :-D ). And I guess Australia needs some new technological marvel, rocks you can burn just won't cut it in coming decades.

And, anyone else noticed that the guy dissing coal works somewhere called "BlackRock"? Whats up with that?
