July - September Capex from Australia

more to come

Q3 capex down 4%, a miss on expectations but ahead of Q2

  • expected -3.0%, prior -5.4%

If this is surprise to you then I suggest reading more of ForexLive. We've been rappelling down the capex cliff for a good few years now.

  • Building capex -5.7% q/q
  • Plant machinery capex down -1.9% q/q (this will detract from Q3 GDP, data due next week, December 7)
  • Estimate 4 for 2016/17 capex is AUD106.9bn (Reuters polling had median consensus at AUD111bn). The previous estimate for 2016/17 (i.e. estimate 3) was AUD105bn:

All these graphs are from the Australian Bureau of Statistics capex release. The big thick downsloping redlines on the last pic ... well, those are mine ;-)

I'll do a separate post on "All the good news from the Australian Q3 Capex data for the AUD" ... but I will have to rely on the good folks of ForexLive contributing to it ... 'cause I don't see any good news for the AUD in this data. Bleh ....

I've used the baby with a barf bag pic before ... but it fits right in with this data today
